Ox Creek spans 8,600 acres (13 sq miles), with existing wetlands covering 403 acres. Unfortunately, there has been a significant loss, with wetland acres decreasing by 72%, sediment retention by 85%, and floodwater mitigation by 78%. However, there is potential to restore 1,060 acres of wetlands. Treating stormwater runoff from 30 acres can lead to substantial annual pollutant reductions, including 48,000 lbs of sediment, 345 lbs of nitrogen, and 87 lbs of phosphorus. The data underscores the need for restoration efforts to enhance wetland ecosystems and mitigate the impact of pollutants on water quality.
