City of Bangor Railroad Depot Renovation This is an example of a project that highlights the renovation of a historic structure in a downtown and created jobs!
Other significant projects in southwest Michigan include:
Berrien County, New Buffalo Township - The Four Winds Casino Resort (owned by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi) near Interstate-94 and M-239 features more than 124,000 square feet of gaming, six restaurants, retail space, and over 2,000 parking spaces. The development is expected to draw more than four million visitors a year to the New Buffalo area. Future phases of the project include a 160-room hotel and a special events center. Economic studies predict the casino will support 3,500 new jobs in the community, including 2,000 at the casino. Many of these jobs will be in the middle to high salary range. In addition, the casino could provide the state of Michigan with an estimated $20 million in annual revenues and provide more than $4 million a year to local governments and agencies.
Berrien County, Lincoln Charter Township - Meijer, a major grocery retailer based in Grand Rapids, has received conditional approval to build a new facility in Lincoln Charter Township. Meijer expects to invest approximately $5-6 million and will create about 400 new jobs. If final zoning approval is granted the store expects to open in 2009.
Berrien County, Benton Harbor - The Harbor Shores Resort in Benton Harbor is a cooperative project involving the cities of Benton Harbor and St. Joseph and the townships of Benton Charter and St. Joseph Charter. Harbor Shores will be a mixed-use community re-development including 1,025 housing units, 94,000 square feet of office space, 108,000 square feet of hotel space, a golf course, and an indoor water park. The $500 million project will be completed in phases spanning 12 years and is expected to create 2,530 new jobs.
