The success of the PPRW Planning Project demonstrated that a tremendous amount of energy exists for improving and protecting the Paw Paw River. Efforts to implement the watershed plan began with the "Finding a Voice for the Black and Paw Paw River Watershed" forums held on May 22nd and June 19th, 2008. From those meetings, there was consensus to create a watershed organization for the Black and Paw Paw River Watersheds. The meeting participants provided a general direction and some ideas for moving forward.
The volunteer organizers of the "Finding a Voice" forums are asking other stakeholders to join them in an effort to build a sustainable watershed organization capable of implementing the watershed management plans developed for the Black and Paw Paw Rivers. The Transition Team will decide how this new organization will be structured, how it will function, when & where it will meet and what it will be called.
Regular Steering Committee meetings were held throughout the PPRW planning process. These meetings will no longer be taking place. The transition team is a new opportunity to stay involved and help move watershed management from planning to implementation. As always, your commitment can be what you want it to be. Of course, the more people involved and helping out the better chance of success. We hope you all will join the Transition Team to keep things moving in a positive direction!
